The people, the way everyone is willing to help you.
What’s the best thing about being a Central Plateau local?
There’s so much space especially for motocross tracks.
What’s your claim to fame? What best describes what you do?
I race motorbikes off-road competitively.
What inspired you to get into this?
I have always been a competitive person and riding around the paddock by myself just didn’t do it for me.
What’s your most recent success?
Winning the NZ Women’s cross-country title.
Other successes?
My biggest successes are winning the womens' national cross-country title 2 years in a row, racing motocross in Australia representing NZ 2007. Coming 3rd in the nz womens national motocross championships 2007 and winning the tarawera 100 mile race for women in 2007. Winning the NZ Women’s cross-country title.
What made it possible?
Huge support from my parents, family and boyfriend.
What are your future plans/goals?
I plan to race a season of motocross which is about 6 months in America in 2011.
What’s the most difficult thing you’ve had to get through?
Being diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and being told I wouldn’t be able to ride competitively again. I still have it, but now I have to listen to my body and take one day at a time.
What strengths do you need to be good at what you do?
You need to be fit and mentally strong. Have heart and never give up.
Any funny or not so funny moments you can share with us?
When I raced in Australia another rider landed on me over a jump breaking my bum. I could barely walk or sit down. It was so swollen I couldn’t fit my pants properly and I have lost some feeling in it.
Your advice to someone wanting to get into your sport?
Ask other riders questions and watch them to learn as much as you can. Have fun.
