Plateau Central

Plateau Profile - Jude White - Ohakune

How long have you lived in Ohakune?
7 years – all my life but I was born in Wanganui hospital.

What school do you attend?
Ohakune Primary School

What’s the best thing about being a Central Plateau local?
The best thing is that there is a giant climbing wall and the mountain because I can go snowboarding in winter.

What’s your favourite feature of Ohakune?
The rivers because in summer I go down them on tubes, I go fishing with poppa, my sister, cousins and friends all the time. I helped catch the big trout above in the Mangateitei Stream and almost dropped it back into the river. The other day we went eeling and caught a big one. We are going to smoke it and eat it – poppa says we have to eat what we catch and put the small ones back.

What’s your claim to fame? What best describes what you do?
I play soccer and I’ve scored about three goals this year. We train at Ruapehu College and play in Wanganui every Saturday. Sometimes we win and sometimes we lose like last weekend.

What inspired you to play soccer?
My dad was a really good soccer player and he played overseas. I want to play professional soccer like him.

Share your successes with us?
I got two goals in one game.

What makes it possible?
My friend’s dads Nick and Inky take me to training and to the games.

What are your future plans/goals?
I’d like to play soccer for the All Whites and one day in the world cup.

What’s the most difficult thing you’ve had to get through?
I’ve badly broken both arms, first my left when I fell off the top bunk at home and then last year I broke my right arm when I fell off the flying fox.

What skills do you need to be good soccer?
Make sure you go to practice and practice as much as you can.

Any funny moments you can share with us?
The other week a guy on the other team tripped over and face planted in the mud.

Your advice to someone wanting to get into soccer?
They just should cause it’s so much fun and you get a certificate – I got one last week.
