Plateau Profile - Glyn Hubbard - Ohakune |
How long have you lived here?
32 years.
What schools did you attend?
I attended schools in Australia and Wales.
What’s the best thing about being a Central Plateau local?
The people and the landscape.
What’s your favourite feature of the Ruapehu region?
Mt Ruapehu, the weather and the clouds!
What’s your claim to fame? What best describes what you do?
Apart from my family interests, since retiring from teaching and gymnastic coaching, I have found more time to follow my other passions of therapeutic massage, fitness and photography.
What inspired you to get into this?
I enjoy life, so helping fellow human beings on this planet as well as recording life and our environment for posterity is a great satisfaction to me.
Share your successes with us?
I feel I have achieved when clients follow my suggestions on how to improve their health and lifestyles. Health is wealth.
I also thoroughly enjoy recording the people, places and things that affect me through my photography.
What’s your most recent success?
The below photo entitled "Poppies" recently won the "Flora - Summer's Bounty " photography section of The Waimarino Art Awards held in Raetihi.
I was returning home driving westward coming out of Rangataua on a late afternoon when these bright red poppies caught my eye.
They were in the sun and stood out clearly in front of a strawbale grey wall that was in shadow.
The contrast was good and the light was excellent so I took the shot.
What made it possible?
Just pursuing things as much as possible when possible and never giving up on the challenge of doing something new.
What are your future plans/goals?
To continue to enjoy life to the full by following what I love to do.
What’s the most difficult thing you’ve had to get through?
All our lives have their ups and downs - we just have to work through them and move on.
What strengths do you need to be good at what you do?
If it’s worth doing then it’s worth doing as well as you can - there’s no other way.
Persevere with the things that you think are worthwhile.
We all have a contribution to make in this life - find out what it is and just do it!
Any funny moments you can share with us?
Too many to mention!! Working with students at school and in the gym was sometimes hilarious!
Life requires a sense of humour as it often allows us to see the bigger picture and see life from different points of view - including laughing at ourselves!
Your advice to someone wanting to get into what you do?
As Above i.e. Do what you enjoy and life is a beach!!
This is achieved by living every day to the full by doing your best under the circumstances at the time.
Follow your passions, do what you love and you will find that you never have to work. I call it play instead!. Adopt a positive attitude and work on it until it becomes a habit. It usually takes about six months and will then last forever...... and remember that RICH stands for Realizing It’s Called Health! ( in every sense of the word).
